Mountie Women Defeat LBCC for Fourth time this Season, 76-54

By John M. Sherrard

(Long Beach, Ca) Very seldom does a team face an opponent four times in a season. To defeat that opponent four times might be just as hard, but the CCCAA No. 3 state-ranked Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team defeated host Long Beach City College Vikings, 76-54, Friday night in a nonconference game.

Previously, the Mounties defeated the Vikings in three tournaments, two of which were in title games.

Mt. SAC raised its win total to 17, which is tied with Siskiyous College for the most wins to date in the state. The Mounties only have one loss and ran their consecutive winning streak to 12, the current second-most in the state.

"We had a great week of preparation and it showed at the tip," Mt. SAC coach Brian Crichlow said.

Crichlow, who has been head coach at Mt. SAC for seven years, was no doubt referring to his teams' 24-4 first-quarter start in the game. They held a 30-10 lead after one quarter of play.

Sophomore G/F Allyah George scored a game-high 16 points, with 12 coming in the first quarter which helped in their fast start.

"Allyah was in a great rhythm on both ends (offensively and defensively) and the team rallied around her energy and efforts," Crichlow added.

"We were in-sync offensively and it helped us lock in on the defensive end."

The Mounties out-rebounded Long Beach, 56-30, in the game, 45 coming on the defensive end.

George was a near-perfect 7 of 9 from the field and was 2 for 2 at the foul line and had four assists.

Two other Mountie players also scored in double figures – Kali Jones (12 pts., 6-9 FGM, 4 RB, 2 BLKs) and Dominique McLaughlin (10 pts., 4-7 FGM, 2-4 3PM).

The second quarter was more of the same for the Mounties, with the bench scoring 15 points, led by freshman guard Deja Siaki with seven, including a 3-pointer that gave the Mounties a 30-point lead, 45-15, with 1:57 left in the half.

Mt. SAC received 24 points in the game from perhaps one of the best benches in the state.

The third quarter was more of the same with Mt. SAC outscoring the Vikings for the third quarter in a row, 22-15, en route to a large 71-34 lead heading into the final quarter.

In the game the Mounties were 5 of 7 from beyond the arc, with two coming from sophomore guard Maddeline Dopplick (8 points, 4 RB, 4 steals)

The Mounties will play their last two nonconference games on Wednesday at Mt. SAC against El Camino College (6:00 pm) and against Cerritos at a game to be played at El Camino on Friday at 4:00 pm.
