Mountie Women Open Ventura Tournament with, 113-40, Victory over Taft College

(VENTURA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team ran its record to a perfect 5-0 after a 113-40 victory over Taft College in the opening game of the 19th Annual Ventura College Tournament of Champions Friday afternoon.

Mt. SAC sophomore guard Maddeline Dopplick (12 of 14 field goals made, 5 steals) scored a season-high 28 points (4 of 5 3-pointers), while freshman guard Dominique McLaughlin (7 of 10 shooting, 2-2 3-pointers) and sophomore forward Kali Jones (7 of 9 FG, 4 steals) added 17 and 15 points respectively.

Defensively, the Mounties as a team pulled down 62 rebounds (41 defensive), two shy of their season high, while offensively they were 48 of 83 (57.8%) from the field.

Leading the way on the boards was sophomore forward Tshlene Bentley (14 points) with 15 rebounds (7 off, 8 def.) and Kiara Stiger (9 pts) with 11 (5 off, 6 def.).

The Mounties held Taft to only five first-quarter points en route to a 34-5 lead and built up a 57-17 halftime advantage.

As a team the Mounties scored 42 points off of 24 Taft turnovers and had 45 fast-break points.  

Dopplick had 11 points in the third quarter to help the Mounties build up a 94-31 lead heading into the final quarter.

Also scoring for the Mounties in double figures was sophomore guard Breanna Marquez (4 of 8 FGM, 2-2 FT) with ten points. 

The Mounties will play Saturday in the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of the Sierra College and College of the Canyons game.
