Mountie Women Advance to Tip-Off Tourney Championship Game, Defeat Saddleback in Semis, 93-41

(WALNUT) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team made it 2-0 in their own Linda G. Smith Memorial Tip-Off Tournament with a, 93-41, victory over Saddleback College Saturday night at the Mountie gym.

With the win they advanced to the championship game Sunday against Long Beach City College.

Five players scored in double figures for the Mounties, including freshman forward Jade Hughes with a game-high 16 points and sophomore forward Kali Jones with 13.

Sophomores Maddeline Dopplick and Tshlene Bentley both had 12 points.

Jones scored eight of the first ten points for the Mounties, helping them to a 25-14 first-quarter lead.

Dopplick and Hughes led the Mounties in the second quarter scoring 7 and 6 points respectively and almost doubled up on Saddleback, 48-26.

In the third quarter the Mountie defense forced nine Gaucho turnovers and outscored them, 21-2, to build an insurmountable 69-28 lead.

Freshman Dominique McLaughlin and sophomore Aliyah Dickson added ten and eight points respectively for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC travels to Fullerton College this Tuesday, November 15 and will play in the Ventura College Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend, beginning Friday the 25.
