Saratoga, Calif. – It was a tough weekend for the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team at the West Valley Bruce Watson Invitational on October 10–11, finishing 1-3 in tournament play. The Mounties opened strong with a dominant 31-4 win over Las Positas, but fell in three closely contested matchups against West Valley (12-9), Ventura (15-14), and Diablo Valley (12-11 OT). With the results, Mt. SAC moves to 11-7 overall while remaining undefeated in South Coast Conference play at 2-0.
GAME 1: Mt. SAC def. Las Positas, 31-4
The Mounties exploded out of the gate, scoring 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter and extending the lead to 15-0 by halftime. Mt. SAC continued its offensive onslaught in the second half, adding 16 more goals while holding Las Positas to just four. It was a true team effort, with Trevor Davis, Cristian Reza-Madrigal, Jacob Carlson, and Jeremiah Hoil each recording hat tricks. In goal, Tyler Johnson, Michael Hale, and Noah Musman combined for 14 saves to cap off a complete team performance.
GAME 2: Mt. SAC falls to West Valley, 12-9
Facing the No. 2 ranked West Valley Vikings, the No. 4 Mounties started strong with a 3-2 lead in the first quarter. However, the Vikings responded with four unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead and extended their advantage to 8-3 by halftime. Mt. SAC mounted a rally in the third, narrowing the gap to 8-6, but West Valley maintained their edge in the final period. Jacob Carlson and Paco Lopez led the Mounties with three goals apiece, while Michael Hale made 8 saves in the cage.
GAME 3: Mt. SAC edged by Ventura, 15-14
Saturday brought heartbreak as Mt. SAC narrowly lost to No. 8 Ventura in a back-and-forth battle decided by a goal in the final 22 seconds. The game was tied at the end of each of the first three quarters (3-3, 8-8, 12-12), but Ventura managed to outlast the Mounties down the stretch. Jacob Carlson delivered a standout performance with six goals, while Nicolas Flores, Trevor Davis, and Nazareth Longoria-Morasky each added two. Goalkeeper Michael Hale had five saves on 20 shots, while Ventura's Bryce Biglin made 15 saves to help seal the Pirates' victory.
GAME 4: Mt. SAC loses in OT to Diablo Valley, 12-11
In their final match of the tournament, the Mounties went the distance in an overtime thriller against Diablo Valley. The game remained deadlocked through regulation at 11-11, with DVC scoring the game-winner in the extra period. Nicolas Flores led Mt. SAC with three goals, while Trevor Davis, Jack Painton, Andon Hanson, and Paco Lopez added two each. Goalie Michael Hale made eight saves, but DVC's Rauiri Murphy posted 13, playing a crucial role in the Vikings' narrow win.
