The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team had a mixed performance at the Cuesta College Tournament on September 27 and 28, finishing with two wins and two losses.

The tournament began with a tough 14-6 loss to No. 8 ranked American River College. Trevor Davis led the scoring with three goals, supported by Nico Lara with two and George Roby-Unkovich, who added one. Despite taking more shots, Mt. SAC struggled with a shooting percentage of 22.2%, converting just six of 27 attempts, while American River excelled at 63.6%, scoring 14 out of 22 shots.

The Mounties turned it around on Friday with a 9-8 victory over Riverside City College. Lara contributed in a big way with three goals, while Nico Flores and Lucas Heath each added two, and Ryan Jackson and Davis chipped in with one goal each. Goalkeeper Zayd Karim played a crucial role, recording 11 saves to secure the win.

Saturday got off to a rough start with an 11-3 defeat against No. 2 ranked Golden West – the lowest score for the team this season. Davis scored two goals and Lara added one. The Mounties struggled offensively, managing only three goals on 18 attempts for a shooting percentage of 16.7%, compared to Golden West's 57.9% on 11 of 19 shots, making the difference in the game.

The tournament concluded on a positive note, with a 10-7 win over Modesto. Goals came from Roby-Unkovich, Michael McMillan, Lara, Jackson, Davis and Heath as the team achieved their highest shooting percentage of the weekend at 40%, scoring 10 goals out of 25 attempts.

Head Coach Marc Ruh commented on his team's performance stating, "This is a tough stage of the season for us. We're starting a predominantly freshmen group due to some injuries, so we are always getting better experiences and learning a lot every game. I am sure this will pay off for us down the line. It is hard now, but things will get better."

While this wasn't the team's strongest showing, very few teams achieved a 2-2 record over the weekend. Following these results, Mt. SAC's record stands at 10-8, and they are currently ranked No. 9 in the latest poll.

The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team will host Rio Hondo on Wednesday, October 2, at 4:30 PM. The last meeting between the teams was at the Mt. SAC Tournament on September 20, where the Mounties secured a 14-9 victory. Come out and support your Mounties!
