Mt. SAC Athletics Announces 2016 Hall Of Fame Banquet

(Walnut, CA) The 2016 Mt. SAC Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet will induct seven outstanding individuals and one legendary team on Saturday, February 6th at the Pacific Palms Conference Resort, in the City of Industry.  Social hour begins at 5:30 pm and the Dinner/Ceremony begins at 6:30 pm.  Tickets are $65 per individual and $500 for a table for eight guests.

This year’s inductees include:
  • 1995-1996 Women’s Cross Country Team (Team), captured back to back state championships (1995 and 1996) and finished third at the 1995 USA Track and Field National Junior Cross Country Championships.  The team of Andrea Duran (South Hills H.S.), twins Jeanne and Jennifer Formosa (Edison H.S.), Deanna Gurrola (Wilson H.S.), Elly Mann (La Puente H.S.), Tania Nunez (Chino H.S.), Elizabeth Robles (Baldwin Park H.S.) and Julia Ornelas (Chino H.S.)
  • Fred Burri (Coach), former wrestling coach who guided Mt. SAC Student-Athletes to nine state championship titles, 15 All-American Honors and produced over 60 state championship medalists.  
  • Stan Gonta (Coach), a member of the USC 1962 National Championship Football Team, who began his Mt. SAC Coaching Career in football, but ended his career as a Hall of Fame Golf Coach.  He was instrumental in starting the women’s golf program, as well as leading the Mountie Men’s and Women’s Golf Program to a total of six CCCAA State Championships.
  • Tobie Hatfield (Athlete), former Mt. SAC Pole Vaulting Star who went on to become an icon in the athletic shoe industry, with numerous designs and innovations for Nike including the Nike Free. 
  • Mike Hohensee (Athlete), former Mountie and Rowland High School Star Quarterback who went on to a record breaking career at the University of Minnesota and a Hall of Fame Career as a player and coach in the Arena Football League.
  • Archie Nisbet* (Coach),  this Cal Gridiron Star was one of the original Mt. SAC Athletics Coaches who set the Mountie Standard of Excellence, over 65 years ago. 
  • John Norton (Athlete/Coach/Administrator), former Bonita High School Track and Cross Country star who spent four decades of his life at Mt. SAC, capturing state and national championships for the Mounties as a student/athlete, professor/coach and as a Dean/Athletic Director.
  • Fred P. Tarin* (Meritorious), served the college for 43 years as the Lead Groundskeeper, this Pomona resident maintained the finest athletic fields for the Mounties and for athletes throughout the world, through his 49 year involvement with the Mt. SAC Relays.
