Whittier, Calif. – It was the least number of points scored against the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team this season, when they obliterated Rio Hondo 81-21 on Wednesday, February 11. The Mounties now improve to 25-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in South Coast Conference North action. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners drop to 11-15 overall, sitting in last at 1-5 in the South Coast Conference North.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties quickly accelerated to a 9-0 lead behind a jump shot from Dylan Tse and layups from Taliyah McFerson and Elizabeth Udeze.
Rio Hondo briefly found momentum behind free throws and a three-pointer from Kathleen Rachmat, along with points at the line from Miranda Morales. But Mt. SAC refused to take their foot of the gas, entering the second period up 30-10.
The defense tightened even further in the second quarter, holding Rio Hondo to just one free throw in the entire period. Meanwhile, Mt. SAC added 15 more points, including five from Janessa Rodriguez, who was active on the glass with four rebounds. The Mounties entered halftime comfortably in front, 45-11.
The third was just as dominant for the Mounties, who poured in an additional 22 points and equally as devastating for the Roadrunners, who added only two points with a single basket. The scoring was balanced across the starting lineup, showcasing the depth and teamwork that has defined the Mounties all season.
The fourth quarter followed the same. Rio Hondo managed eight points with contributions from Alcia Lara and Brooklyn Romero, while Mt. SAC added 14 of its own to seal the 60-point victory.
Every member of the Mountie starting lineup reached double digits, a testament to the team's offensive strengths.
Rodriguez recorded a double-double to lead the charge, while the Mounties' defense generated steals, rebounds, and transition opportunities all night long.
Another dominant performance. Another conference win. Business as usual for Mt. SAC.
