Torrance, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team put on an offensive showcase Friday night, cracking triple digits for the first time this season in a dominant 103–36 win over El Camino on January 9. The Mounties continued to prove why they are the state's No. 1-ranked team, improving to 17-1 on the year, while the Warriors fell to 2-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC wasted no time setting the tone, storming out to an 11-0 run to open the game. Four of the five starters chipped in early, with jumpers from Elizabeth Udeze and Taliyah McFerson, free throws from Dylan Tse, and a three-pointer from Naomi Acuna highlighting the Mounties' depth and balance. El Camino answered with baskets from Maya Kelley and Morgan Jackson, but Mt. SAC remained firmly in control, closing the first quarter up 26-12.
The Mounties kept their foot on the gas in the second period. Alexis Brown scored on a layup, Armani Owens knocked down a jumper, and Mt. SAC's bench stepped up in a big way. Tierra Taylor, Leiayjah Mills, Journey Wilson, and Makayla Haddock all made immediate impacts. Jackson, Leah Richards, and Chistiauna Taylor worked to keep the Warriors competitive, but Mt. SAC headed into halftime with a 47-23 lead.
Coming out of the break, the Mounties delivered their strongest quarter of the night, pouring in 36 points while holding El Camino to just eight. With the starters back in action, Acuna scored 10 points and McFerson added eight along with four rebounds. Haddock made the most of her minutes, scoring 10 points in just four minutes and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Richards knocked down a pair of threes for the Warriors, but Mt. SAC's momentum never slowed.
The Mounties closed things out strong in the final frame, adding another 20 points. Taylor led the charge with 13 points, including four free throws and a three-pointer, while Mills added seven to cap off the night. The final buzzer sealed a dominant performance from start to finish.
