Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team secured a dominant 75-54 victory over Glendale Community College on Saturday, November 9, as part of the Gene Victor Memorial Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mounties got off to a fast start, with Jaidyn Simpson hitting an early layup to give them a quick 2-0 lead. After a brief 3-2 deficit following a three-pointer from Glendale's Jonathan Hakim, Mt. SAC regained control and never looked back.
The first half remained competitive, with the game tied at 13 midway through and Glendale briefly taking a 16-15 lead on another three-pointer from Tyson Jackson. However, Mt. SAC's defense began to shine, as they forced turnovers and capitalized on missed shots. Kenneth Brown and Simpson led the offensive charge, while Jon McCullough made a layup to extend the lead to double digits and Simpson scored consistently to keep the offense humming. By halftime, the Mounties had stretched the lead to 33-22.
The Mounties wasted no time extending their lead in the second half, with Brown hitting a three-pointer early to make it a 40-22 advantage. Simpson managed a dunk that pushed the lead to 65-42 with under eight minutes remaining. Despite a few strong efforts from Glendale, including a couple of free throws from Nigel Dickens and a layup from Noah Smith, the Vaqueros could not cut into the deficit. Mt. SAC's bench also played a critical role, with Joel Gado contributing 10 points and Jeremy Williams going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in limited minutes. Mt. SAC's relentless offense, highlighted by fast breaks and efficient shooting, kept them comfortably ahead.
