No. 3-ranked Mt. SAC improve to 4-0; Defeat Bakersfield, 28-10

(Bakersfield, CA) For the first time since the 2014 CCCAA State Championship season, the Mt. SAC Football team has started the season 4-0 on the field.

The Mounties, who came into the game ranked No. 3 in the CCCSIA poll and No. 4 in the JCAB poll, defeated host Bakersfield, 28-10, on Saturday (September 24).

Mt. SAC amounted for 404 yards of total offense, as quarterback Ike Udengwu III was 17 for 26 with a passing and rushing touchdown and two interceptions. Jaden Allen caught eight passes for 78 yards, while Shemar Savage (2 catches, 35 yds) and Cade Cadam (3 catches, 24 yds) each had a touchdown reception.

Trailing, 10-7, in the second quarter, the Mounties scored three consecutive touchdowns to win going away.

The first of the three go-ahead TDs came on a 6-yard reception by Cadam from Udengwu in the last few seconds of the first half to take the lead, 14-10.

The lead was extended in the third quarter, after freshman quarterback Sean Jastrab (9 for 12, 72 yards) completed the 10-play, 60-yard drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Savage to extend the lead to, 21-10.

The Mounties capped their scoring with a 9-yard TD run by Mohamed Nyangamukenga (6 carries, 37 yards) with 2:53 left in the game.

The defense, led by quarterback sacks from Katin Surprenant and Darius Eaves, held the Renegades to 52 yards rushing in the game.

Mt. SAC will host Allan Hancock (2-2) on Saturday, October 1 in a non-conference game at 4:00 PM.
