(Walnut, CA) Following last Friday’s Announcement of Mt. SAC Spring Sports returning back to campus, the athletics department has “opted in” to the 2021 spring sport season. This means that Mt. SAC has stated its intent to participate in the traditional 2021 Spring sports season. This includes the sports of Baseball, Beach Volleyball, Golf (M), Softball, Swimming/Diving, Tennis and Track & Field.
The ability to compete, however, will be contingent on a number of issues including local, state and national CoVID-19 policies at the time of competition. It will also be contingent on the implementation of CoVID-19 safety protocols for competition including testing, transportation, equipment sanitization, etc. The final hurdle will be finding and scheduling competitions, whether it be at home or away.
In a bit of irony, the South Coast Conference of which Mt. SAC is a member, has opted out of spring competition as a conference and has cancelled the traditional spring sports season. The conference ruling does allow any individual college to play a non-conference schedule based on a college’s ability to follow local CoVID-19 protocols and guidelines to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff.
