(Walnut, CA) An eight-game winning streak came to an end for the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team on Wednesday (Oct. 19), as they fell, 3-2, to visiting Rio Hondo in a South Coast Conference match.

The Mounties, who are 14-4 overall and suffered their first conference match of the year, slipped to 6-1 in the SCC.

They lost by scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 18-25, 10-15.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was sophomore opposite Allison Whiteman (9 Digs) with a match-high 18 kills (.405%), while sophomore outside hitter Angelina Burton (5 D) added 14 kills.

Kylie Rhodes (10 D, 2 SA, 1 K) had a match-high 26 assists. Sophomore libero Riannel Arevalo (2 SA) had 17 digs, followed by Bristol Christelman (1 SA) with 15 digs.

In the opening set with the score tied, 19-19, JJ Quarrels (7 K, 4 D) had a kill for the 20-19 lead, but the Roadrunners reeled off six points to Mt. SAC's 3 points for the first-set win.

The Mounties built up a big second-set lead, 20-9, but Rio Hondo again began a late comeback, but fell short, 25-17, as Mt. SAC evened the match, 1-1.

Mt. SAC won the third set by the same score to take a 2-1 lead in sets and were hoping to extend its winning streak to nine games with a game-four win, but Rio wouldn't go away, as they were determined to defeat the states' No. 9 team.

The Roadrunners closed out the fourth set with three kills in the last four points to tie the match at 2-2.

Rio Hondo took an early, 4-1 lead and never trailed to win the fifth and deciding set to hand the Mounties their first SCC loss of the season.

Mt. SAC travels to Cerritos on Friday (Oct. 21) for another SCC match.
