
Long Beach, Calif. – In a competitive South Coast Conference showdown, the Mt. SAC Women's Swim and Dive Team secured an important 161-119 victory over Long Beach City College on Friday, March 28. Despite the absence of star swimmer Paige Fast due to illness, the Mounties showcased their depth and resilience by winning ten out of the 15 events of the day.
Megan Venegas played a crucial role in the Mounties' success, especially in the distance freestyle events. She claimed first place in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:42.93 and added a strong second-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:39.29.
In the sprint freestyle events, Carolyn Kao had an outstanding performance, winning three individual events. Kao powered through to claim first in the 200 Free with a time of 1:59.62 and the 50 Free with a time of 25.39. She also excelled in the 100 Free, clocking in at 55.85, showing her versatility and speed across various distances.
Genevieve Niko was another standout, contributing to the team's success with multiple podium finishes. Niko finished second in both the 50 Free (25.57) and the 100 Free (56.36), and her performances in the relays added to the team's depth. She also earned second place in the 100 Back with a time of 1:07.53, showing her proficiency in both freestyle and backstroke events.
Elleanna Ramos demonstrated her strength in the backstroke and butterfly events, taking second place in the 200 Back (2:28.39) while teammate Ella Rosenthal finished third in 2:33.47. Ramos was victorious in the 200 Fly, claiming first place with a time of 2:12.91 and adding another first-place finish in the 100 Fly, finishing with a time of 58.45.
In the breaststroke events, Spencer Damaske led the way for Mt. SAC, earning first-place finishes in both the 100 Breast (1:10.45) and the 200 Breast (2:32.26). Damaske's consistency and powerful strokes in these events were vital in the Mounties' performance, as she also earned second place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.06. Her versatility across multiple disciplines provided critical points for the team.
Sarah Tolmasoff supported the team in the breaststroke, securing second place in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.42. Eden Kennedy had a strong showing for Mt. SAC, contributing valuable points with third-place finishies in both the 1000 Free (12:19.39) and 200 Breast (2:41.80). Eden Buell made her mark in the competition, securing third place in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:41.80, while also finishing third in the 200 Free with a time of 2:07.40.
The diving squad also contributed to the team's success, with Lola Baiz earning second place and Atty Omeyokan finishing in third. Their efforts on the diving board helped the Mounties maintain their lead over Long Beach.
In the relays, Mt. SAC continued to excel, with the team of Kao, Damaske, Ramos, Venegas, and Niko winning the 200 Medley Relay in 1:37.81. The Mounties also finished second in the 400 Free Relay, with the same team clocking in at 3:53.96, rounding out a strong day for the relay squads.
