Salma Valle wins the 100 Freestyle for the Mt. SAC Women’s Swim team in the SCC Pentathlon

(El Camino, CA) In a non-scoring event on Friday, February 9, the Mt. SAC Women's Swimming team competed against the seven other teams in the South Coast Conference.

Leading the way with a first-place finish was freshman Salma Valle in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 53.40.

"Both the men and women swam great," Mt. SAC Men's Swimming coach Marc Ruh said. "This was a non-scoring meet, in essence, a training meet in which every kid swims five events plus two relays.

"The meet also gives everyone a chance to see what the conference looks like going into the season."

Placing second in the first event of the day in the 200 Medley Relay for the Mounties were Paige Fast, Elleanna Ramos, Eden Kennedy, and Genevieve Niko.

Ramos also placed second in two events – 200M Individual Medley and the 100M Butterfly, along with a second in the 100M Backstroke for Fast.

"The conference looks very talented on both sides," Ruh added. "There are some great swimmers and great depth on both the men's and women's side of the conference.

"This should be a very exciting year for the conference and based upon what we see already, the conference should have a great showing at the state championships as well."

The South Coast Conference comprises the following colleges: Mt. SAC, El Camino, Chaffey, Cerritos, East L.A., Long Beach City College, Pasadena City College, and Rio Hondo.

Mt. SAC takes a break and will host Sierra College in a dual meet on Thursday, Feb. 29.
