Mt. SAC Women’s Swim team takes second at RCC Invite

(Riverside, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Swim team, led by Laila Topinio and Melissa Chavez, with two wins each, finished second in the annual Riverside City College Invitational on Friday (April 8).

Riverside City College finished with 704 points to take first place, Mt. SAC's 546 was enough for second.

Rounding out the top five schools are San Diego Mesa (337), Saddleback College (254), and Grossmont (221).

Twelve community colleges were represented at the Invite.

Topinio swam lifetime bests in both the mile and 500 Freestyle and finished second in the 400 Individual Medley, while Chavez also swam lifetime bests in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.

In the relays, the Mounties won the opening race in the 200 Medley and finished second in the 400 FR.

Other second-place finishers for the Mounties were Lexis Brattain (100 Backstroke, 200 FR), Isabell Ortega (200 Fly), and Parker Damaske (100 Fr).

The divers will take center stage next, as they will compete in the South Coast Conference and CCCAA So Cal's beginning Friday (April 15) and concluding on Saturday (April 16) at El Camino College.
