Mt. SAC Women finish fourth in WSC finals: Chen (100, 200 Breaststroke) and Chavez (50 Breast) win individual events

(San Luis Obispo, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Swimming and Diving team made the long trip to San Luis Obispo for the Western States Conference finals and placed fourth Saturday (May 22) at host Cuesta College.

Ventura won the event with 517 points, followed by second-place Bakersfield (460), Cuesta (449), Mt. SAC (429) and Santa Monica (339).

The highlight for the women was three individual winners by the Mounties.

Sophomore Valerie Chen, who has had some outstanding swims in the Breaststroke events in the previous two double-dual meets for the Mounties this season, won the 100 Breast (1:12.24) and 200 Breast (2:33). Chen also finished second in the 200 Individual Medley (2:22.49) and the 50 Butterfly (27.66).

Freshman Melissa Chavez took home a first in the 50 Breast (33.85) and a second in the 100 Breast (1:15.54)

Finishing second in the 50 Backstroke was sophomore Julia Bensing-Ruiz with a time of 34.97.

Overall, the women were 2-2 in the two double meets this season.
