Mt. SAC Women's Swimming and Diving teams Place First in SCC

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished first at the South Coast Conference Championships held at Mt. SAC on Thursday through Saturday.

The women compiled a team score of 638 points, while Long Beach (556 points) and Cerritos (500 points) finished in second and third places, respectively.

Mt. SAC's women's coaches Chris Jackson and Jodi Lepp were named SCC Women's Swimming Coaches of the Year, while men's coaches Marc Ruh and Lani Ruh earned SCC Men's Swimming Coaches of the Year.

Four women's relay teams took first place in various races. In the 400-yard Medley Relay, the team of Erin DeAnda, Kiani Lopez, Kaitlin Howard, and Colleen Gamboa finished with a time of 4:18.67. Howard, Lopez, DeAnda, and Miranda Silva turned in a time of 1:58.92 in the 200-yard Medley Relay.

DeAnda, Howard, Silva, and Gamboa combined for a time of 8:30.18 in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay. The team also finished first in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:48.65.

Individually, DeAnda earned first place finishes in the 100-yard Fly (1:01.06) and the 100-yard Freestyle (54.44). Howard finished first in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:05.13) and 200-yard Backstroke (2:22.20). Gamboa's time of 2:04.38 was best in the 200-yard Freestyle.

The Mounties will next compete in the three-day California Community College Athletic Association Championships at De Anza College beginning Thursday, May 2.
