Mt. SAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Team Wins SCC Dual Championship; 34th Consecutive Conference Win

(Pasadena, CA) Two overwhelming victories by the Mt. SAC Women's Swimming & Diving Team have given the Mounties a South Coast Conference Dual Championship Friday (3/29) at the Pasadena City College Swim Complex.

In the double dual meet, the Mounties defeated East Los Angeles College, 191-44 and host Pasadena City, 161-67 for their 34th consecutive SCC dual win dating back to the 2015 season.

Mt. SAC swept all 15 events from ELAC and won 11 of 15 from the Lancers.

Erin DeAnda, Colleen Gamboa and Kaitlin Howard led the way with three wins each. DeAnda and Gamboa were part of the winning 200 Meter Medley Relay team, which also included Kiani Lopez and Amber Bustamante.

DeAnda finished ahead of both PCC and ELAC in the 200 Freestyle (2:08.77), 100 Backstroke (1:04.68) and the 100 Free (57.13).

Gamboa won the 1000 Free (12:39.54), 500 Free (6:04.14) and the 50 Free (27.63).

Howard won the 200 Butterfly (2:40.52), the 200 Backstroke (2:40.07) and the 200 IM (2:43.39). She was also part of the winning 400 Free Relay team, along with Miranda Silva, Sarita Quesada and Alina Merito.

Lopez won the 100 Breaststroke (1:15.76) and the 200 Breast (2:43.89), but finished second to PCC swimmer Carmen Ung, who won by a wide margin in both races.

PCC's only two other wins came in the 100 Fly and 200 IM.

Journey Barreto won the 1-Meter Diving event totaling 118.90 points and Quesada finished first in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:19.65.

The women will next compete in the Pasadena CC Invite Thursday-Saturday April 4-6, followed by the SCC Championships at Mt. SAC April 18-20.
