Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team's postseason came to a close on Saturday, November 23, with a 2-1 loss to Santiago Canyon in the second round of the SoCal Regionals. Despite a valiant effort on their home field, the Mounties came up short, and Santiago Canyon advanced to the next round.
The Hawks struck first in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a critical opportunity to take an early lead. The Mounties responded 10 minutes later when midfielder Elena Ochoa found the back of the net off a pass from Michelle Vazquez, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
The second half remained fiercely competitive, with both teams battling for control. In the 86th minute, Santiago Canyon broke the deadlock, netting the decisive goal to claim the win. Despite Mt. SAC's push to equalize in the final moments, they were unable to capitalize.
Goalkeeper Anai Olmedo faced two shots on goal, both resulting in scores, while Mt. SAC managed one goal from their lone shot on target.
The Hawks will move onto the third round of playoffs, where they will face off against the Saddleback Gauchos on Tuesday, November 26.
And just like that, the 2024 season ends for the Mounties. Although their playoff run fell short of expectations, the team can take pride in a season defined by resilience, teamwork, and growth. We're already looking forward to what the next season will bring.
