The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team secured the first-place title at the Mt. SAC / Nike / Azteca Soccer Tournament with a 0-0 tie against Sierra College on Sunday, September 8. The result capped off a successful weekend and demonstrated the team's defensive skills and determination.
Despite the match ending in a scoreless draw, Mt. SAC's defensive performance was a highlight of the game. Goalkeeper Anai Olmedo recorded two crucial saves, maintaining a clean sheet throughout the game. The team's defensive unit, including exceptional efforts from the entire squad, was instrumental in their tournament success.
Mt. SAC took five shots on goal but was unable to find the back of the net. However, their 3-0 victory over Cosumnes River College on Friday set the foundation for their tournament win, as the team's strong overall performance secured them the top spot.
Coach Sanchez reflected on the tournament stating, "We had a great weekend, getting two positive results against quality opponents. I'm proud of how the team played through adverse situations."
Following the tournament, Mt. SAC's record stands at 3-2-1. The team will look to continue their momentum into their next match against Folsom Lake on Friday, September 13, at 6:00 PM.
