
(Torrance, CA) No. 3-seed Mt. SAC (14-2-4, 7-0-2) handed No. 2 El Camino (9-7-2, 6-2-1) a 2-0 defeat in the semifinal round of the South Coast Conference Tournament on Tuesday to advance to the championship game.
Following a scoreless tie at halftime, Karissa Vela put the visiting Mounties on the board with an unassisted goal at the 67:00 mark. Deanna Rojas added an insurance score on an assist from Vela at the 85:35 mark to seal the victory.
Goalie Leila Peregrina (90 minutes) had five saves for Mt. SAC.
The Mounties will face top seed Rio Hondo (14-1-1, 8-0-1) in the tournament championship game on Friday, Nov. 12, at El Camino College at 7 p.m. The teams played to a 0-0 draw on Nov. 2, giving the Roadrunners the SCC North title.
Mt. SAC is riding a 15-game unbeaten streak while Rio Hondo has an 11-game on-field unbeaten streak of its own (12 counting a forfeit win against Los Angeles Harbor). Furthermore, the Roadrunners are also ranked No. 5 in the state and the Mounties are ranked No. 10.
