Walnut, Calif. – What was it Jay-Z said? "If you're having ball problems, I feel bad for you son. We scored 99 points and our game ain't one." Something like that. Anyways, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team dropped 99 points in a dominant 99–37 victory over Long Beach on January 14. Mt. SAC continues to roll, improving to 18-1 on the season, while the Vikings slip to 8-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Long Beach got on the board early as Mya Barnes scored on a layup, two free throws, and a jumper in the opening two-and-a-half minutes. Those, however, would be the Vikings' only points of the first quarter. Mt. SAC quickly took control behind a balanced attack. Makayla Haddock poured in seven points, Taliyah McFerson added six, and Dylan Tse put up five as the Mounties built a commanding 24–6 lead after one.

The Vikings found a little more rhythm in the second quarter, doubling their output with 12 points spread across the lineup. It didn't slow Mt. SAC down. Tierra Taylor had a standout stretch, scoring 10 points and knocking down a pair of three-pointers, while McFerson and Janessa Rodriguez controlled the glass. The Mounties headed into halftime firmly in charge, 50–18.

Mt. SAC came out of the break firing on all cylinders, posting their highest-scoring quarter of the night with 27 points. McFerson led the way with nine points and six rebounds in the frame, while Haddock added seven, including two shots from beyond the arc. By the end of the third, the Mounties had stretched the lead to 77–31.

Haddock opened the fourth quarter with yet another three-pointer, setting the tone for the final stretch. Micah Lemons and Barnes added a few baskets for Long Beach, but Mt. SAC kept pushing. Journey Wilson was steady at the free-throw line, Fatou Mbengue finished inside, and Taylor capped off the night with a three-pointer to seal the emphatic win—and the Mounties' 99th point.
