(Costa Mesa, CA) After opening its season with three consecutive wins and a tournament title, Mt. San Antonio College (3-1) came up short for the first time in a 67-64 non-conference game at Orange Coast College (4-0) on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Down 58-46 through three quarters, the Mounties went on an 18-7 run in the fourth, pulling to within one, 65-64, on a jumper by Carly Bolden (15 points, four assists) with 22 seconds to play. The Pirates responded with a pair of free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Daisia Mitchell led Mt. SAC with 21 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, as Dailani Richardson and Alina Johnson scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the team's double-digit scorers. In addition, Aanisah Moncrief tallied seven rebounds on the day.
In spite of the loss, the Mounties outplayed OCC in several key team categories, including rebounds (38-33), points off turnovers (23-13) and points in the paint (36-22).
Mt. SAC will take the next couple of weeks off to enjoy some turkey and pumpkin pie before returning to action in the Tom Gilcrest Invitational at College of the Sequoias, which begins on Nov. 30. Opponent and time have yet to be announced.
