(Walnut, CA) After 20 months of waiting, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team is back in action, with an overwhelming, 97-42, win over San Diego City College in the opening game of the Linda G. Smith Memorial Tip-Off Classic Friday night (November 5).

The Classic, hosted by Mt. SAC for the 25th year, also saw Sierra, Rio Hondo, and Citrus pick up wins in the opening round.

The Mounties will be aiming for their 15th title in 19 years.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was freshman guard Briana Lizardi (2-2 FTM, 3-4 3PT, 2 Stls.) and sophomore guard Mina Guevara-Goss (4-7 FTM, 1-3 3PT, 4 Stls.) with 23 and 21 points, respectively.

Sophomore guard Savanna Norfleet (3-3 3PT) added 17 points for the Mounties, along with 15 points from sophomore forward Allyah Cartajena (2-4 3PT, 1 Stl.).

Mt. SAC, which has always had a strong bench, continued the tradition with 52 points from its reserves.

Mounties freshman guard Ebony Delgado and sophomore guard Savanna Norfleet had six and five assists, respectively.

The Mounties got off to a big 23-4, first-quarter lead and never looked back. They continued the hot start with 25 points in the second quarter, as the Knights only scored six.

Mt. SAC led, 48-10 at the half.

The Mounties had their biggest quarter in the third with 30 points, building up a 78-24 lead.
