Mountie Women's Basketball Overcomes A 14-point Deficit To Defeat Rio Hondo, 66-57

(Walnut, CA) Trailing by 14 point midway through the third quarter, Mt. SAC (18-6, 4-1) dominated the stretch to capture a, 66-57, South Coast Conference North Division win over visiting Rio Hondo (14-11, 1-4) on Wednesday.

Down 41-27 with 5:36 to play in the third, the Mounties went on a 19-7 run to end the period at 48-46. Mt. SAC opened the fourth with a 7-0 run, capturing the lead for good, 49-48, on a Jade Hughes jumper at the 7:31 mark.

Hughes led all players with 19 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Alexis Sanchez also had nine boards. Aujanae Mayes added 16 points off the bench for the Mounties and Natalia Shpegel scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds. Kiara Stiger also had seven rebounds on the night.

Amy Navarro led the Roadrunners with 18 points in the losing effort.

Mt. SAC will host Los Angeles Trade Tech (21-4, 4-1) on Friday, February 8th at 7 p.m. in an SCC North Division rematch. The Mounties defeated Trade Tech, 76-60, on January 23rd. L.A. Trade Tech is currently ranked #5 in the lates CCCSIA State Poll while the Mounties are ranked #11.
