Mountie Women open South Coast Conference Crossover Basketball Game with 65-59 Win over Cerritos; Siaki Scores 24

(Norwalk, CA) After another successful nonconference schedule in which the Mounties were in five tournament championship games and won three, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team began South Coast Conference crossover action with a 65-59 victory over host Cerritos College Wednesday night.

Mt. SAC, which is sixth in the CCCAA state rankings, upped its record to 15-4.

Leading the way for the Mounties was guard Deja Siaki with a game-high 24 points, which included six 3-pointers. The sophomore was 9 of 18 from the field with eight rebounds and three steals.

Forward Jonnae Vermillion added 18 points for the Mounties on 8 of 16 shooting and brought down a game-high 10 boards.

After trailing 15-9 in the first quarter, the Mounties took the lead 17-15 on a 3-pointer by Siaki with 7:02 left in the first half and only trailed twice in the third quarter by a basket.

Mt. SAC built up a nine-point lead 60-51 on a layup by Vermillion with 3:05 remaining in the game and came away with the victory.

Guard Dominique McLaughlin (8 RB, 3 Steals, 4-4 FTM) added eight points for the Mounties, while guard Tiana Douglas (3-4 FTM, 3 Steals) had six boards.

As a team the Mounties outrebounded the Falcons 39-31.

The Mounties travel to El Camino College on Friday for the last conference crossover game before the final 10 SCC North games.
