(Lancaster, CA) For the fourth consecutive year, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team has hoisted the championship trophy at the Antelope Valley Holiday Tournament. The Mounties defeated Cypress College, 84-73, behind the hot shooting of tournament MVP Jonnae Vermillion and all-tournament team selection Dominique McLaughlin, Sunday afternoon, at the Marauder Gym.

Five Mounties scored in double figures.  Vermillion (11 of 19 FG, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) led the team with a game-high 22 points, followed by McLaughlin (6 of 12 FG, 5 of 6 FT, 10 rebounds, 4 ssists) with 18 points, Tiana Douglas (4 of 8 FG, 4 of 5 FT, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) with  12 points, Deja Siaki (4 of 8 3Pt) also with 12 points and Tianna Burrell (4 of 9 FGM) with 10 points.

Myjoi Adams (4 of 6 FG) added eight points for the Mounties whose season record now stands at 11 wins and 3 losses.

Cypress (5-6) led, 15-14, early in the opening quarter, 15-14, but the Mounties outscored the Chargers, 7-2, to regain the lead after the first period, 21-17.  Siaki hit the first of her four 3's in the game near the end of the quarter for the four-point lead.

The Mounties led throughout the second quarter and maintained their four-point lead, 40-36, at the break. Vermillion had six points in the quarter, along with four each by Adams and McLaughlin.

The third quarter was more of the same for the Mounties, leading all the way. Cypress closed to within a point twice, with the latest coming halfway through the quarter, 48-47.

Three pointers by Burrell and Siaki highlighted the quarter, with the last coming with nine seconds left by Siaki, to give the Mounties a seven-point advantage, 60-53, heading into the final period.

Twenty-one points in the 4th quarter between Vermillion (8), McLaughlin (7) and Douglas (6) were enough for the Mounties to maintain their lead and put away the Chargers with a double-digit victory.

Mt. SAC will take a break for the Christmas holiday before playing in the annual Colleen Riley Holiday Invitational, at Fullerton College, from Wednesday Dec. 27 through Friday Dec. 29. The Mounties will open with L.A. Pierce College (5-7), on Wednesday, at 7:00 pm.
