(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team will be aiming for their ninth consecutive Linda G. Smith Tip-Off Classic Championship on Sunday after a convincing 67-46 semifinal win over Citrus College Saturday night at the Mountie Gymnasium.

Mt. SAC will play Long Beach City College, a 73-68 semifinal winner over Saddleback College, on Sunday in the championship game.

After a close opening-game win in the tournament the Mounties (2-0) took an eight-point (16-8) first quarter lead and were never threatened the rest of the way, averaging a double-digit lead throughout the game.

Mt. SAC, which has won 12 of the last 13 Tip-Off Classic titles, was led by a game-high 26 points (10 of 16 FG, 6 RB) from guard Dominique McLaughlin, followed by 14 points each from forwards Jonnae Vermillion (12 rebounds) and Tianna Burrell (6 of 9 FG, 6 rebounds).

Mountie guards Celeste Brown and Tiana Douglas added seven and five rebounds respectively.

Mt. SAC will hit the road for two tournaments later in the month – Ventura Tournament, Nov. 24-26 and Sequoias Tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 3.

The Mounties won the Sequoias Tournament last season.
