(Ventura, CA) The number one ranked Mounties defeated the number two ranked Ventura Pirates, 67-50, to capture the Ventura College-Kiwanis Tournament, this past Sunday (11/29).  Mt. SAC remains undefeated this season with seven wins and two tournament championships, to remain on top of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) South Regional Women's Basketball Poll Rankings.

The Mounties were led by Gina Henderson, who shot a perfect, 11 for 11 from the free throw line and scoring a game high of 19 points.  Freshman guard, Caira Benton,  dominated the boards with 10 rebounds.  Coming off the bench, sophomore guard Alisia Spearman put in a solid 24 minutes and added 10 points to the Mountie total.

On their way to the championship game, the Mounties defeated two ranked Northern California teams in number 14 Contra Costa College, 72-61, and number one ranked Diablo Valley, 71-59.

Alize' Lofton was named named the Tournament MVP and Caira Benton was named to the all-tournament team.  

Mt. SAC will look to extend their winning streak as they head north to defend their championship at the Gilcrest Invitational.  The tournament will be be held at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia (CA) and will run from December 3rd through the 6th.  The Mounties will open the tournament against Reedley College, on Thursday December 3, at 2:00 pm.
