Whittier, Calif. – In their South Coast Conference opener, the No. 7 Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team made a statement with a dominant 30-5 win over Rio Hondo on Wednesday, September 17. With the victory, the Mounties improve to 4-2 overall and take an early lead in the SCC standings, while the Roadrunners remain winless at 0-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC wasted no time asserting control. Nazareth Longoria-Morasky opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the game, quickly followed by a goal from Jacob Carlson at the 36-second mark. This early offensive burst set the tone for a dominant first quarter, as the Mounties poured in 11 goals compared to Rio Hondo's 2.

The Mounties maintained their momentum in the second quarter, adding 7 goals to take an 18-2 lead at halftime.

Though the third quarter saw a slight uptick in Rio Hondo's offense, with Arik Aguirre netting a powerplay goal, Mt. SAC responded swiftly. Nicholas Sanchez and Cristian Reza-Madrigal scored consecutive goals, keeping the margin wide as the quarter ended 5-2 in favor of Mt. SAC.

Defensively, Mt. SAC's goalkeepers held strong, with Michael Hale leading the effort with four saves to help shut down the Roadrunners' attack. On the other end, Rio Hondo's Christopher Ayala managed three saves, but was overwhelmed by the Mounties' relentless offensive pressure.
