Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field team opened its 2026 home schedule in impressive fashion at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, hosting the Kamaka Open from February 19–21. The meet marked the first of three home competitions for the Mounties this season — a slate that also includes the prestigious 3C2A State Championship — and featured a strong field of competitors from four-year universities, setting the stage for a highly competitive weekend.

One of the highlights of the meet was the season debut of the Mountie decathletes, who competed in all 10 events for their first full combined scores of the year. Mt. SAC's depth and versatility were on full display throughout the three-day competition.

On the track, Marques Guzman sprinted to a first-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 48.18. The Mounties also found success in the relays. The 4x100 relay team of Bradley Camping, Diego Rico, Isaac Rodriguez, and Aivan Sampaga took second place in 42.33. In the 4x400 relay, Dane Barker, Dillon Thomasson, and Xavier Hubbard powered Mt. SAC to a first-place finish in 3:13.84.

In the field events, Ja'Len Taylor tied for second in the high jump, clearing 6' 2.75", while Samuel Kolody placed fourth with the same height. Ethan Johnson captured first place in the long jump with a mark of 22' 8.5". Brandyn Wetherspoon added another podium finish, placing second in the triple jump with a leap of 46' 6.75".

In the throws, Oluwatoni Babatunde led the way with a second-place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 48' 7.5", while Andres Lambarena placed fourth at 45' 0.5". Babatunde also added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 143' 5", continuing a strong all-around showing in the field events for the Mounties.

The decathlon was a major bright spot for the Mounties. Taiyo Ishiguro claimed first place overall with 6,190 points, delivering standout performances across multiple events. He placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.67) and javelin (188' 10"), finished second in the shot put and 1500 meters, and added third-place finishes in the 400 meters and discus.

Anik Singh placed seventh overall with 4,857 points, highlighted by a first-place finish in the high jump (6' 4.75") and a second-place mark in the discus. Aaron Anderson finished eighth with 4,852 points, including a third-place showing in the 100 meters, while Kase Schaffeld rounded out the Mountie competitors in ninth place with 4,847 points, winning both the shot put and discus events within the decathlon competition.
