San Mateo, Calif. – After a demanding two-day competition at the 3C2A State Championships hosted by San Mateo College on May 16–17, the Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field Team earned a third-place finish in the state. The Mounties, who had claimed the state title for the past three years, collected 88.5 total points this year. Riverside City College captured the championship with 98 points, followed by San Diego Mesa College in second with 93 points. College of the Sequoias and Modesto Junior College rounded out the top five with 54 and 51 points, respectively.

Notably, Mt. SAC achieved its third-place finish without any sprint qualifiers, highlighting the team's strength in distance events, jumps, throws, hurdles, and multi-events. In distance races, standout Jordan Berkley took first place in the 1500 meters (3:59.61) and second in the 800 meters (1:54.11), with teammate Noah Gordon finishing third in the 800 (1:54.46). Joel Fischer placed fifth in the 10,000 meters (32:02.69), and Jude Enriquez came in seventh in the steeplechase (9:42.87).

In the hurdles, Ruben Delgado earned a state title in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.60 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Joshua Cervantes and Zachary Felix placed sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 55.29 and 55.30.

The Mounties also made a strong showing in the field events. Brandyn Wetherspoon secured second place in the triple jump (48' 10 ¼"), while Taiyo Ishiguro placed third in the javelin (183' 3"). In the pole vault, Mt. SAC had three top-five finishers: Quintin Dukes tied for second (14' 11"), Reimius Aceret finished fourth (14' 5 ¼"), and Eli Nieves tied for fifth (14' 5 ¼"). In the long jump, Tyrus Murguia took seventh place (21' 7 ½"), and Oluwatoni Babatunde earned third in the shot put with a throw of 50' 6 ¼".

Mt. SAC's depth was further demonstrated in the decathlon, where the team placed three athletes in the top 10. Spencer Shuler finished fifth overall with 5,934 points, highlighted by second place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.35) and third place in the 1500 meters (4:44.28). Josh Mallers came in seventh with 5,810 points, bolstered by strong marks in the javelin (second place – 148' 10") and pole vault (tied for second – 13' 3 ½"). Evan Johnson finished tenth overall with 5,491 points, earning a first-place finish in the high jump (6' 5 ½") and placing third in both the 100 meters (11.38) and long jump (21' 2 ½").

Although the team's streak of state championships came to an end, the Mounties' all-around performance and depth in multiple disciplines reaffirmed Mt. SAC's reputation as a powerhouse in collegiate track and field. And with that, the 2025 season has come to an end – we will see you next year!
