Mounties Make Podium Finish at 3C2A Track & Field SoCal Finals, Now Bound for State

Mission Viejo, Calif. – Coming off a strong performance in the 2025 3C2A Southern California Prelims, the Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field Team entered the finals in tight contention. As the competition wrapped up, Riverside City College pulled ahead to claim the team title with 183 points. Mt. SAC secured a solid second-place finish with 149 points, while early frontrunner San Diego Mesa College slipped to third with 125. Cerritos (83) and Orange Coast College (41) rounded out the top five.

In the sprints, Kerry Smith Jr. placed seventh in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.01 seconds. The Mounties shined in the middle-distance events, with Jordan Berkley taking first in the 800 meters (1:53.32), Noah Gordon close behind in third (1:53.52), and Noah Chairez finishing sixth (1:57.59). Berkley also secured second place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:00.38.

In the 10,000-meter run, Diego Varela and Joel Fischer delivered strong performances, placing fourth (32:01.61) and fifth (32:02.49), respectively. Ruben Delgado led a dominant hurdle squad in the 110-meter hurdles, earning first place with a time of 14.42 seconds. Teammates Joshua Cervantes and Aidan Villasenor followed in sixth (15.24) and seventh (15.36). The 400-meter hurdles also saw a packed field of Mounties: Cervantes placed third (54.12), Zachary Felix fourth (54.32), Nicholas Nocero sixth (55.41), and Spencer Shuler seventh (55.77). Jude Enriquez took seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 9:58.86.

In the relays, the 4x100-meter team of Nocero, Smith Jr., Shane Plourde, and Bradley Camping finished fifth at 41.42 seconds, while the 4x400-meter team—Nocero, Smith Jr., Cervantes, and Gordon—took eighth place with a time of 3:23.40.

On the field side, Jonah Wilson and Evan Johnson both cleared 6' 2.75" in the high jump, earning sixth and eighth places respectively. In a dominant pole vault performance, Quintin Dukes captured first place with a mark of 16 feet' 6.75". Nathaniel Zwisler and Reimius Aceret followed closely behind with marks of 14' 11", and Eli Nieves finished sixth with 14' 5.25".

In horizontal jumps, Tyrus Murguia leapt 22' 1" to earn third in the long jump, while Brandyn Wetherspoon placed fourth at 21' 10.25". Wetherspoon also took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 45' 8". In the throws, Oluwatoni Babatunde placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 48' 3.5", and Duke Hemsley earned eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 139' 11". Taiyo Ishiguro was second in the javelin, launching the spear 188' 0.75".

In the decathlon, Spencer Shuler led the way for Mt. SAC in fourth place with 5,928 points. Evan Johnson followed closely in fifth (5,813), with Josh Mallers in sixth (5,800), showing the team's depth in the multi-events.

The Mounties head to San Mateo College for the 3C2A State Championships, set for May 16–17. With strong performances across the board, Mt. SAC is primed for a powerful finish to their season. Let's go, Mounties!
