
Long Beach, Calif. – Mt. SAC's Men's Track and Field Team dominated the opening day of the South Coast Conference Championships at Long Beach City College, securing a strong first-place lead with 139 points. Cerritos trails in second with 63 points, while El Camino holds third with 19.
On the track, Kerry Smith Jr. delivered two solid performances, placing fifth in the 200 meters (22.18) and fourth in the 400 meters (50.78). In the 800 meters, Mt. SAC showcased incredible depth as Jude Enriquez claimed first with a time of 1:56.52. Teammates Noah Gordon (third, 1:57.22), Noah Chairez (fourth, 1:57.32), and Austin Hernandez (fifth, 1:56.97) also finished strong. In the 1500 meters, Aidan Gomez took second in 4:10.02, followed closely by Isaac Torres in fourth (4:10.25). Joel Fischer captured the 10,000-meter crown with a time of 32:31.78, while Logan Berkley added key points with a fifth-place finish (33:02.27).
Mt. SAC hurdlers swept the top four positions in the 110-meter hurdles. Aidan Villasenor led the charge in 15.51, followed by Spencer Shuler and Nicholas Nocero—both clocking 15.55—and Joshua Cervantes in fourth at 15.68. The team also excelled in the 400-meter hurdles, with Cervantes taking first in 55.06, Villasenor finishing second (56.18), Shuler in fourth (56.46), and Zachary Felix in fifth (56.75).
The pole vault was another area of dominance for Mt. SAC, sweeping the top five spots. Quintin Dukes earned the top mark at 15' 5", followed by Nathaniel Zwisler and Austin Pepito (both clearing 14' 11"), Mateo Guerra (14' 5.25"), and Reimius Aceret (14' 5.25"). In the long jump, Elijah Crook secured second place (22' 5.25"), with Brandyn Wetherspoon (third, 21' 7.25") and Tyrus Murguia (fourth, 21' 6.75") adding depth.
The shot put also belonged to Mt. SAC, with Oluwatoni Babatunde winning the event with a throw of 46' 3.5". He was joined by Duke Hemsley (second, 44' 4.25"), Diego Rosales (fourth, 40' 11"), and Robert Medina (fifth, 40' 1.25"). In the hammer throw, Hemsley placed second (138' 11"), followed by Matthew Ortiz (third, 136' 11") and Rosales (fourth, 119' 4").
In the decathlon, Spencer Shuler led the way for Mt. SAC with a third-place finish, scoring 5,928 points. Evan Johnson (fourth, 5,813 points) and Josh Mallers (fifth, 5,800 points) rounded out a consistent showing in the multi-event competition.
