Mounties Shine at Ron Kamaka Open with Strong Performances Across Events

Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field Team delivered a strong performance at the Ron Kamaka Open, held Saturday, February 22, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Freshman Mentoa McKenzie clocked 10.85 in the 100m to secure sixth place, while Ruben Delgado also finished sixth in the 200m with a time of 22.22. In the 400m, Devin Paton took third place at 49.96, and Jude Enriquez placed fourth in the 800m with 1:56.54.

The team finished strong in middle distance with Noah Gordon (4:08.770), Maximiliano Loera (4:08.74) and Alex Figueroa (4:10.02) placing sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the 1500m, while Noah Chairez placed eighth in the 3000m with a time of 8:45.86.

The Mounties dominated the 110m hurdles, sweeping the top four spots: Ruben Delgado led the pack with 14.81, followed by Joshua Cervantes (15.36), Nicholas Nocero (15.48), and Aidan Villasenor (15.70). In the 400m hurdles, Cervantes took second (53.91), with Nocero (4th – 55.00), Villasenor (7th – 57.13), and Zachary Felix (8th – 57.59) also finishing strong.

Mt. SAC's 4x400m Relay Team of Van Rhodus, Kerry Smith, Romello Jenkins, and Mentoa McKenzie placed second with an impressive 3:15.54. A second team featuring Nocero, Cervantes, Felix, and Villasenor finished sixth, while Shane Plourde, Andrew Silva, Huy Ho, and Diego Rico placed tenth.

In field events, Matthew Stauffer cleared 1.85m (6'.75") to finish sixth in the high jump, while Michael Loano and Jonah Wilson tied for seventh at 1.80m (5'10.75"). The pole vault saw six Mounties in the top 10, with Quintin Dukes (3rd – 4.70m) and Nathaniel Zwisler (4th – 4.70m) leading the charge.

The Mounties also excelled in the long jump, with Vince Casey placing second (6.76m), followed by Tyrus Murguia in fourth (6.74m), Elijah Crook in seventh (6.57m), and Xavier Meza in ninth (6.35m). Murguia added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (12.89m).

In throwing events, Taiyo Ishiguro claimed first place in the javelin with a mark of 60.07m, while Toni Babatunde finished fifth in discus (41.19m) and Christopher Jimenez placed eighth (39.21m).

The Mounties now turn their focus to the Ben Brown Invitational, set for March 7-8 at Cal State Fullerton.
