Mt. SAC Men’s Track & Field Dominates Season Opener with First-Place Finish

Long Beach, Calif. – In their first meet of the season, the Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Team dominated the competition, finishing in first place with a total score of 265. Cerritos trailed behind in second with 133.5 points, while Orange Coast College rounded out the top three with 78 points.

Sprints & Middle-Distance Highlights:
Freshmen Huy Ho and Van Rhodus led the charge in the 60 meters, claiming first and second place with times of 6.98 and 7.02 seconds, respectively. In the 600 meters, sophomore Noah Gordon earned a strong second-place finish with a time of 1:22.39. In the 1500 meters, teammates Joel Fischer and Jacob Diaz finished neck and neck, securing third and fourth place with times of 4:17.11 and 4:17.13.

Hurdles Domination:
The Mounties swept both hurdle events, showcasing their depth and dominance. In the 60-meter hurdles, Ruben Delgado (8.42), Nicholas Nocero (8.64), Spencer Shuler (8.72), and Joshua Cervantes (8.77) claimed the top four spots. The team replicated this success in the 300-meter hurdles, with Delgado (39.34), Cervantes (39.54), Nocero (40.38), and Zachary Felix (41.57) again sweeping first through fourth place.

Relays & Distance Events:
In the Distance Medley Relay, the team of Noah Chairez, Jude Enriquez, Isaac Torres, and Maximiliano Loera finished fourth with a time of 10:50.76.

Field Event Highlights:
In the high jump, Evan Johnson soared to first place with a height of 2.00m (6' 6.75"), while Michael Lozano tied for second at 1.87m (6' 1.5"). The pole vault was another area of dominance, with Nathaniel Zwisler taking first at 4.25m (13' 11.25"), and Eli Nieves and Austin Pepito tying for second at 4.10m (13' 5.25").

In the long jump, Tyrus Murguia and Vince Casey took second and third with leaps of 6.97m (22' 10.5") and 6.71m (22' 0.25"), respectively. Casey went on to win the triple jump with a mark of 13.96m (45' 9.75"), while Murguia claimed third with 12.83m (42' 1.25").

Throwing Events:
Freshmen Oluwatoni Babatunde and Duke Hemsley placed second and third in the shot put with throws of 12.96m (42' 6.25") and 12.94m (42' 5.5"), respectively. Babatunde also secured first place in the discus with a throw of 41.65m (136' 8"), while Christopher Jimenez followed closely in second at 38.11m (125' 0").

With an impressive start to the season, the Mounties have set a high bar for the competitions ahead.
