(Torrance, CA) Going for its third consecutive state title, the Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field team opened its 2024 season with a first-place finish at the South Coast Conference opener at El Camino College on Saturday, Feb. 10. With 252.5 points, the Mounties finished ahead of Orange Coast College (127) and Long Beach City College (87.5).
Mt. SAC competitors turned in nine first-place, 10 second-place, and five third-place performances on the day.
Johnathan Dvorak (javelin), Jesus Isiordia (hammer), Cory Gamero (discus), Terrence Sweetman (triple jump), Quintin Dukes (pole vault), Ian Crocker (3000 meters), Reid Lockliear (400 meters), the 4x400 relay team (Lockliear, Devin Paton, Nicholas Nocero, Matthew Lavin), and the distance medley team (Noah Chairez. Romelio Jenkins, Noah Gordon, Andres Chavez) accounted for the Mounties' first-place finishes.
Second-place performances for Mt. SAC came from Paton (400 meters), Johnathan Zavala (3000 meters), Christian Baker (60 hurdles), Sweetman (long jump), the 4x400 relay team (Ryan Rivituso, Drew Hill, Isaac Hernandez, Jenkins), and the distance medley team (Santiago Orozco, Jaylend Howard, Jose Garcia Ortiz, Jude Enriquez). In addition, Seth Reyes, Austin Pepito, Ricardo Trujillo, and Pablo Nunez all finished tied for second in the pole vault.
Andrew Tafolla (3000 meters), Chairez (1500 meters), Hill (400 meters), Baker (200 meters), and the 4x400 relay team (Josh Moringa, Asani Hampton, Jacob Hernandez, Jake Jensen) were the third-place finishers for the Mounties.
