Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field secured the second-place position at SoCal Prelims

(San Diego, CA) At the 2023 California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Prelims held at San Diego Mesa College on Friday, May 5, the Mt. San Antonio College Men's Track and Field team finished the day in second place with 36 points. Riverside City College sits in first place with 46 points and host SD Mesa in third with 35. The competition continues in the Southern California Finals on Friday, May 12, at SD Mesa College.

The day's competition saw the Mounties take first in eight events, second in 11, and third in two.

Mt. SAC first-place performances came from Jacob Williams (100 meters), Kerry Smith Jr (200 meters), Thomas Scrofano (800 meters), Jesus Alvarado (10,000 meters), Marcus Monroe Jr (high jump), Namir Hemphill (triple jump), 4x100 team (Hemphill, Smith, Jake Jensen, Williams), and the 4x400 relay team (Scofano, Nicholas Vargas, Nick Felix, Smith).

Mountie second-place finishes included Jensen (100 meters), Smith (400 meters), Johnathon Zavala (10,000 meters), Garren Haynes (long jump), Terrence Sweetman (triple jump), and Tylor Connelly (hammer). In the pole vault, five Mt. SAC athletes tied for second: Jered Beasley, Collin Orlando, Ethan Amata, Jesus Arias, and Justin Beltran.

Christian Baker (110 hurdles) and Brad Riehl (400 hurdles) accounted for Mt. SAC's third-place finishes.
