Aguilar Wins So Cal Decathlon, Chidester places fifth in Heptathlon; both earn spots at CCCAA State Championships

(Norwalk, CA) Mt. SAC track and field athletes Andrew Aguilar and Elizabeth Chidester earned spots in the California Community College Athletics Association State Championships with their performances at the Southern California Heptathlon Decathlon Championships at Cerritos College on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After the first day of decathlon competition, Aguilar was in sixth place with a total of 3,012 points. His event marks for the day included 16.46 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, 37.13 meters in the discus, 3.95 meters in the pole vault, 36.4 meters in the javelin throw, and 4:50.51 in the 1,500-meter run.

The second day of the decathlon saw Aguilar catapult to the top of the leaderboard, finishing with 5,909 points. His event marks were as follows: 11.7 seconds in the 100-meter run, 6.02 meters in the long jump, 11.01 meters in the shot put, 1.61 meters in the high jump, and 52.75 seconds in the 400-meter run

Chidester placed fifth in the heptathlon with a two-day combined total of 3,687 points. After the first day of competition, she was in third place with 2,455 points. Her marks for Day 1 included 4.06 meters in the long jump, 25.92 meters in the javelin throw, and 2:35.99 in the 800-meter run.

Her Day 2 marks included 17.82 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, 1.46 meters in the high jump, 10.43 meters in the shot put, and 27.11 seconds in the 200-meter run.

Mt. SAC's Crystal Vongphrasou finished in 10th place in the heptathlon with a two-day total of 3,181 points.

Aguilar and Chidester will compete in the state championships at San Mateo College on May 17-18.
