(Sacramento, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Track & Field Program kept up the longstanding tradition of bringing home a state championship trophy with a second place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. Despite having no individual state champions, the depth of the team propelled them into second place, 33 points behind team champion, College of the Sequoias and 30 points ahead of third place finisher, Riverside City College.
The Mounties highest individual finisher was freshman Manuel Fernandez in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Fernandez ran a personal best of 9:24.42 to lead a strong contingent of Mounties in that race (17 team points), which included sophomore Nicholas Medina (4th place, 9:31.38) and sophomore Hector Peralta (5th place, 9:27.31).
The Men's Pole Vault was the other individual event to score 17 team points. The team was led by 3rd place finisher, freshman Asa Martin and 4th place finisher, Christian Mueller who both jumped personal bests of 16'06"3/4 (5.05M). Sophomore Ryan Polakiewicz (6th place, 16'00"3/4 (4.90M)), freshman Kyle Beck (7th place, 16'00"3/4 (4.90M)) and freshman Aleksandris Eglitis (8th place, 15'01" (4.60M)) rounded out the point scorers in the pole vault.
The men's 4X100 meter team of freshman Tyrin Wells, sophomore Spencer Danner, sophomore Chaio Winters and sophomore Cavan Bluitt ran a season best of 40.65 to take the second place.
