(Las Vegas, NV)  Coach Ron Kamaka was named California Community College Cross Country and Track Coaches Association (5CTCA) Head Men's Track and Field State Coach of the Year. The award was presented at the 2016 5CTCA Convention, which was held at the Linq Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas (NV).  This marked the second consecutive Coach of the Year Honor for Kamaka, whose Mounties captured their second consecutive California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men's Track and Field State Championship.  The 2016 Mountie Men scored an amazing 149 points to capture the state championship with a 49 point lead over runner-up Riverside City College, who scored 99 points

Along with Kamaka, Assistant John Bolton captured the 2016 5CTCA Men's Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year Honor and Assistant Daniel Ozan, captured the 2015 5CTCA Men's Assistant Cross Country Coach of the Year Honor.

Bolton literally dominated the men's sprints at this years CCCAA State Championships.  His student-athletes scored an incredible 68 points, capturing championships in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4X100 meter relay and 4X400 meter relay.  He also produced CCCAA State Athlete of Year (all-sports), Cravon Gillespie, who captured the 100 meters, 200 meters and was a member of the winning 4X100 meter relay team.  Gillespie ran the 11th fastest time in the nation (overall) this season in the 200 meters, at 20.20 and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Ozan's incredible coaching, led the Mountie Men's Cross Country Team to a CCCAA State Championship runner-up finish (116 points) behind an extremely talented American River College (67 points), but ahead of 2014 CCCAA State Champions, College of the Canyons (123 points).   Ozan's top finisher, Sophomore Terry Fenske, placed 13th, but it was the tight pack running of the Mounties (top 5 runner time gap of 42 seconds) that launched them into second place.
