
Long Beach, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Swim and Dive Team defeated Long Beach City College in a conference meet on Friday, March 28, securing a decisive 197-81 victory. The Mounties showcased their strength, earning first-place finishes in 12 out of the 15 events contested during the day.
Jack Painton led the charge with a win in the 1000 Free (9:53.12) and the 500 Free (4:49.76) while Ethan Lopez claimed victory in the 200 Free (1:48.58). Michael Di Bello topped the podium in the 100 Back (53.85), while Luke Marsden won both the 100 Breast (58.92) and 200 Breast (2:14.01). Ray Chun excelled in the sprint events, capturing first in the 50 Free (21.59) and the 100 Free (48.37). Michael Lu also had a standout performance, winning the 200 Back (1:57.31) and the 200 IM (2:01.76).
The Mounties displayed their depth as a team with several strong second-place finishes. Ethan Darmon finished as the runner-up in the 1000 Free (10:33.49), while Lu earned second in the 100 Back (55.14). Matthew Leeworthy took second in both the 100 Breast (1:01.26) and the 200 Breast (2:21.47). Thomas Chavez finished second in the 200 Fly (2:03.86), and Marsden took second in the 50 Free (22.86). Gavin Roberts claimed second in the 100 Free (48.89), while Di Bello finished second in the 200 Back (2:05.62). Darmon also secured second in the 500 Free (5:06.83), with Lopez finishing second in the 100 Fly (53.82). Lastly, Roberts finished second in the 200 IM (2:03.41), and Michael Evangelista earned second place in Diving.
Several Mounties rounded out the top three in their respective events. AJ Ceja finished third in both the 1000 Free (10:52.52) and the 500 Free (5:16.70). Jayden Pak claimed third in the 100 Back (57.26), while Dylan Liu took third in the 100 Breast (1:01.60). Luke Pedroche finished third in both the 200 Fly (2:06.37) and the 200 Back (2:06.87). Rounding out the third-place finishers was Roberts in the 100 Fly (55.21) and Lopez in the 200 IM (2:11.70).
The Mounties also dominated the relay events. The 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Lu, Marsden, Chun, Painton, and Lopez, claimed first place with a time of 1:37.81. The 400 Free Relay team, featuring the same swimmers, captured another first-place finish with a time of 3:13.84.
