(Walnut, CA) For the fifth time in the last seven years, the Mt. SAC Swimming and Diving Team captured its own Invitational.  This years 35th annual event was held  on February 20th through 22nd (Thursday through Saturday) at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center.

The Mounties topped 12 other colleges with 917 points, followed by Orange Coast College in second with 749 points and third place El Camino with 547.

The big winner at the Invite was Mt. SAC's Nathan Chow with three individual titles - 200 Individual Medley (1:56.17), 100 Backstroke (54.32) and the 200 Back (1:58.93), two second-place finishes (100 IM, 200 Free) and a third-place (100 Free). Chow, a freshman, also swam on two first-place relay teams - 4X50 Medley and the 4X200 Free.

Jonathan Olvera captured first in the 200 Butterfly (1:59.76), had second place finishes in the 100 Fly (54.26) and the 400 Individual Medley (4:24.87) and two fourth-place finishes. He was also a member of the winning 4X50 Medley and the 4X200 Free Relay teams.

Michael Yeh finished with a third (200 IM, 2:05.20) and two fourths (100 Back, 400 IM). He was also a member of the two first-place relay teams.

Mt. SAC finished first in two of the five relays; 4X50 Relay, 1:43.50 (Yeh, Olvera, Chow, Cole Kopperud) and the 4X200 Free, 7:31 (Yeh, Olvera, Parker Egan, Chow).

"The kids swam really strong races," Mt. SAC Men's Swimming & Diving coach Marc Ruh said. "This is the first invite of the year, so most of the kids swam 10 races (6 individual, 4 relays) over two days. It is really a training meet for us.

"It's great to see them swim well and come together as a team. Next up is probably one of our toughest South Coast Conference dual meets against El Camino and Pasadena City College."

That initial SCC meet will take place Friday (Feb. 28) at 12:30 pm.
