Mountie Men Finish Third in 33RD Annual Mt. SAC Swimming & Diving Invite

Mountie Men Finish Third in 33RD Annual Mt. SAC Swimming & Diving Invite

The event, which was held at The Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center, provided a look at many of the states' top swimmers.

The Mounties, with 566 points, finished just 5.5 points behind South Coast Conference rival Pasadena City College (571.5) in second place and meet winner Orange Coast College with a whopping 1,023.5.

Mt. SAC was led by freshman Jason Harary and sophomore Jessie Kim with 111 and 92 team points respectively.

Harary, swimming in seven events in the three-day meet, came away with a second (100 Individual Medley), four thirds (200 and 400 IM, 200 Breast, 50 Butterfly) and two fourths (50 Backstroke, 100 Breast).  Kim, a transfer from College of the Canyons, highlighted his seven events with two seconds (100 and 200 Back), and two thirds (50 Back and 100 IM).

The 20 members of the men's team totaled 118 events, with 10 swimmers gaining points.

"The team really swam well," Mt. SAC Men's Swimming & Diving coach Marc Ruh said." This meet is designed as an early season grind. The kids swim 11 events in two days, so best times are not really what we are looking for. We want the team to gain a lot of racing experience in a short period of time. In that regard - mission accomplished."

Freshman Ryan Lin highlighted his seven events with two fourth-place finishes and a fifth for 65 points, while sophomore Spencer Chlebowski gained 39 points in his six events.

"This meet is really for us, as we get to have a first-hand look at the competition," said Chlebowski, who swam in the grueling 1650 Freestyle and placed fifth.

"I'll go home and compare my times from last years' meet and prepare for the upcoming conference schedule.

"Coach really puts in a lot of time and effort for us."

Harary was just out-touched by .89 in the 100 Individual Medley for second place, while Lin finished three spots behind him in fifth.

Lin, who swam at Roosevelt high, is considered a potential state qualifier and Harary and Kim could be a state finalist in three events each.

The 10 returning sophomores, along with the newcomers, will help lead the Mounties aim for a fifth conference championship in a row this season.

Mt. SAC begins the conference dual meet season today against Cerritos College at home.
