(Monterey Park, CA) Competing against 47 Community Colleges and 207 swimmers from all over the state, the Mt. SAC Men's Swimming & Diving team placed 14th in the three-day, CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College.
Eight Mountie swimmers swam in 20 individual events and five relays in the championships.
Mt. SAC, fresh off of its fourth consecutive South Coast Conference Championship, was led by freshman South Coast Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year Spencer Chlebowski. His highest placing in his three events was an 8th in the 1,650 Freestyle with a time of 16:52.83. He placed 12th and 13th in the 400 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle, respectively.
Mt. SAC's best finish in its five relays was an 8th in the 800 Free with a time of 7:08.58, with swimmers Chlebowski, sophomores Renen Devito, Kyle Chang and Ashcon Dejbakhsh.
In the other four relays the Mounties finished 11th in the 400 Free, 13th in the 200 Free and 400 Medley and 16th in the 200 Medley Relay.
Chang, Devito and sophomore Bryan Calderon all were in three individual events, with Chang (50 Free) and Devito (200 Free) finishing with a 14th place in those two events.
In the two diving events for the men, freshman Andres Jaramillo placed 10th in the 3-Meter board and 12th in the 1-Meter.
Coach Marc Ruh said "It is such a fast meet to qualify for, we have to be swimming at our best at conference championships just to get in."  "All things considered, the kids swam great! Scoring one more point than last year, but finishing a few places down."  "We are, as always, really looking forward to next year and improving on what we accomplished this year".
As a final note, the Mounties earned a number of All American honors over the past 3 weekends (Conference Championships and State Chamionships).  "With the final list to be released in the next two weeks, we should have 4-5 individuals and 2 relays earn top 16 times in the country (All American) and another 2 relays earn top 24 times in the country (All American Honorable Mention) honors", added Ruh "That alone, is a great accomplishment and honor for these swimmers!"
