By John M. Sherrard

(Walnut, CA) For the second time in the last two weeks, the Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving team swept two South Coast Conference opponents in the same day in a double-dual meet held at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center Friday afternoon.

The Mounties defeated both Cerritos College, 229-46, and El Camino College, 192-86, to up their conference record to 4-0.

"We are very happy with the wins (Friday) over Cerritos and El Camino," Marc Ruh, Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving Head Coach said.

"They both are great programs and each have some very strong athletes, which meant we would have to swim well to win.

"We always expect a great meet when we swim against these teams and we were not disappointed. There were lots of highlights as there were a number of good swims."

The Mounties took first in all 12 individual events and two relay races against the Falcons of Cerritos.

Freshman distance swimmer Spencer Chlebowski took home three individual firsts against Cerritos and swam a leg in the first-place, 400 freestyle relay team. Chlebowski, who won three individual events, turned in the second-fastest time in the state this year in the 1,000 free (10:37.07).

"We had some really good swims for this time of the year," Ruh added.

One of those 'good swims" was sophomore Kyle Chang, who finished with a 21.86 in the 50 free and has the seventh fastest-time in state.

Chang's time is very fast for this time of year as he and sophomore Ashcon Dejbakhsh (22.42) own two of the top three times in conference this year. Dejbakhsh also won the 100 free with a time of 49.34.

Three swimmers took home firsts' in two individual events and a relay for the Mounties.

Sophomore Renen Devito won the 200 free (1:49.66) and 500 free (5:03.32) and was a part of the winning 400 yard relay team.

Sophomore Bryan Calderon (100 Breast – 1:02.53, 200 Breast – 2:19.64) and Alex Neoh (200 Butterfly – 2:05.11, 100 Fly – 55.05) were dual first-place finishers individually. Both were also in the first-place IM relay for the Mounties.

The Mounties also outpointed El Camino, 192-86, which included eight first-place finishes and El Camino came away with four individual event winners.

Mt. SAC swept (1-2-3) in seven events against Cerritos and four over El Camino.

"We have a long way to go still," Ruh said. "Freshman Zach Justus had a very strong diving performance, winning the 1-meter event with 149.60 points. It was just four points ahead of second-place sophomore Esteban Martinez (145.30)."

The Mounties will host a double dual this Friday (March 24) against Rio Hondo and Chaffey, starting at 12:30 p.m.
