Mountie Men's Swimming and Diving Lead SCC after Day one

(East Los Angeles, California) The Mounties Men's Swim Team led all teams at the South Coast Conference Championships held at East Los Angeles College after the first day of competition.  The Mounties, with 219 points, have a narrow lead over conference rivals Cerritos (183 points), El Camino (150 points), and Long Beach (148 points).

The Mounties had a very strong day winning two of the three individual events.  Freshman Phillip Wright won the 500 freestyle in 4:38.00, while six other Mounties scored finishing in the top 16.  Sophomore Emmett Poon won the 200 individual medley in 1:57.05.  In each of those two events the Mounties were loaded in the finals session (seven finalists in the 500 free and five in the 200 IM).  The Mounties finished their day with a very strong runner up finish in the 400 medley relay.  The team of Phillip Wright, Jacob Altree, Eric Aguirre and Emmett Poon finished in a time of 3:34.32, over four seconds faster than they had swam this year.

Day two begins with the prelims session at East Los Angeles College at 10:00 am and the finals session will begin at 4:00 pm.
