Oxnard, Calif. – Well, not every season ends the way you hope, and that was certainly the case for the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team in the third round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs, where they fell 1-0 to No. 2–seeded Oxnard College on Tuesday, November 25. With the win, the Condors advance to the fourth and final round of regional playoffs, while the Mounties close out their season with a record of 12-4-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
One and done was all it took for Oxnard to take the lead and the game. In the third minute, Ernesto Rodriguez connected with Emmanuel Yarjah, who found the back of the net for what became the game's lone goal – and the rest was history.
From there, it evolved into a defensive battle, with both teams fighting to maintain possession and limit opportunities. The Condors ultimately held on, capitalizing on their early breakthrough while the Mounties were unable to find an equalizer.
The intensity was evident throughout, highlighted by yellow cards issued to Mt. SAC's Caleb Perez and Oxnard's Nathan Becerra as both teams pushed hard for a spot in the next round.
The matchup marked the second meeting between the two teams this season; Mt. SAC defeated Oxnard 4-2 back on September 16. Whether the Condors' improvement or the familiarity between the teams played a role, this time Oxnard came away with the win.
SEASON RECAP:
Across 20 games, the Mounties delivered an impressive offensive effort, scoring 60 goals on a .800 shot percentage and averaging 3.8 shots per game. They recorded 54 assists, earned 34 corner kicks, and were issued 38 yellow cards. Defensively, Mt. SAC was equally strong, finishing with nine shutouts—nearly half their matches.
Fabian Barajas and Alfonso Ramirez led the team with eight goals each, followed closely by Caleb Perez and Alexis Gomez with seven apiece. Julian Vazquez led the Mounties in assists with six, with Joseph Prado adding five more. In goal, Cody Lindeman started 13 games, logging 1,170 minutes, making 48 saves for a .787 save percentage, and allowing just 13 goals.
