Mounties Fight to the Finish, Earn 2-2 Draw at Long Beach

Long Beach, Calif. – With the regular season winding down, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team walked away with a second consecutive 2-2 draw, this time against Long Beach on Friday, October 31. The result moves the Mounties to 9-2-5 (.719) overall and 6-0-2 in the South Coast Conference. Meanwhile, the Vikings stand at 8-5-4 (.588) and 6-1-1 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Long Beach got on the board first when Eric Diaz converted a pass from Joshua Grado in the 36th minute, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Mounties leveled the score shortly after the break, as Caleb Perez capitalized on a defensive mistake, scoring on a breakaway in the 46th minute, tying the match at 1-1.

The Vikings regained the lead in the 61st minute behind a goal from Jiro Uchida, assisted by Justin Zapata and Julian Zarate. But the Mounties refused to back down – Steven Torres delivered the game-tying goal in extra time, finding the net in the 95th minute to secure the draw.

Mt. SAC recorded 11 shots (5 on target), with Long Beach goalkeeper Fabio Ardizzoia making three saves. The Vikings managed 16 shots (7 on target), while Mountie goalkeeper Edson Mendez tallied five saves to preserve the tie.

The match was physical throughout, with Mt. SAC whistled for 12 fouls and Long Beach for six. Both teams received two yellow cards each.
