Los Angeles, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against conference rival Los Angeles City College on Tuesday, October 28. The result brings the Mounties' overall record to 9-2-4, with a strong 6-0-1 mark in conference play. LACC now stands at 8-4-5 overall and 5-1-1 in the South Coast Conference.
It should be noted that Mt. SAC jumped 11 spots in the latest CCCSIA Men's Soccer Poll, climbing to No. 9 ahead of this matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Things started off promising for the Mounties as Alfonso Ramirez netted a goal just seven minutes into the first half off a pass from Steven Torres.
However, the momentum shifted in the second half. LACC's Juan Munoz leveled the score in the 50th minute and quickly followed up with another goal in the 55th, giving the Cubs a 2-1 lead.
Mt. SAC responded in the 76th minute, as Rafael Avalos delivered the equalizer to secure the tie and keep the Mounties unbeaten in conference play.
LACC pressed hard offensively, firing 10 shots on goal, with Mt. SAC goalkeeper Cody Lindeman making 8 saves. The Mounties managed 6 shots on goal, while LACC's Carlos Rodriguez recorded 4 saves.
The match was intense and physical, with eight yellow cards and one red card issued. LACC received six yellow cards, while Mt. SAC was handed two yellows and a red.
